The Sunrise Swans Artistic Swim Team has been in the Citrus Heights area since 1968. Its purpose is to foster and build teamwork, self-esteem, friendships, and synchronized swimming skills in youths from the surrounding areas. Today, the Swans continue this proud tradition, as well as showcasing the talent and skills learned by each swimmer by presenting an annual Watershow as the highlight of our season
Our Parent Board plays a key role in the success of the team by managing the business aspect of running a competitive, recreational sports team. The Swans rely on the dedication of the families that make up our team, through family engagement in the form of time and energy spent helping to run team events, such as Meets, Swim-a-thon, Watershow and more. It is without a doubt, that the team could not function without the support of team parents and family members. While the Sunrise Swans is a recreational team, we compete in both Dual Meets and League Championships. Our swimmers work incredibly hard, especially since the season is typically only 12 weeks long. The Sunrise Swans operates as an independent recreational team, however, we are affiliated with the local Valley-Foothill Competitive Aquatics League (VFCAL), and hold practices at the Sunrise Parks and Recreational facilities. Our main practices are held at Antelope Community Pool and many of our home events are held at Rusch Pool.
Our team swimmers are classified in two levels: Novice and Intermediate. All swimmers start at the Novice level (unless petitioned and approved by VFCAL) and qualify for Intermediate level based on their figures placement at the all-team Championships Meet in July, at the end of the VFCAL season.
Coach Heather:
Heather has been a member of the Swans since 2018. Since that time she has been very active in many roles including team parent, board member, head judge, referee and coach. She has such admiration for this amazing sport and the team has become like a second family for her.
Prior to her time with the Swans, Heather coached recreational gymnastics with children of all ages. While serving as head judge and referee for the Swans, she spent many years training our team judges and officiating meets. Through these duties she gained extensive knowledge of figures and the many aspects of swim routines, which was very beneficial during her transition into coaching Artistic Swim. She is very excited and proud to serve as Head Coach for the 2025 Season.
Coach Jamie:
Jamie began her artistic swimming career in 2005 with the Roseville Aquabunnies, then joined the Sunrise Swans in 2006, and has been with the Swans ever since. She swam for the team for 10 years and was a volunteer novice coach during the last 4 years while swimming with the Swans.
The 2025 season will be Jamie's 10th year as an official coach for the Sunrise Swans, and she says it has been such a pleasure working with such amazing and talented swimmers! Artistic Swim is a true passion for Jamie and has been for so many years. Jamie considers the Swans as family, the pool deck as home, and hopes that in being a coach she can help our swimmers build their skills, create lasting memories, and fall in love with the beautiful sport of Artistic Swim. Jamie primarily works with Intermediate swimmers and also coaches older Novice swimmers.
Coach Tarissa:
Tarissa was a Swan for 10 years in her youth. She served as junior coach and coached for with the Swans for 5 years after retiring from the Swans as a swimmer. She also swam with Sac Valley Masters Adult League for 1 year. Tarissa loves to share her passion for this sport and has coached for the Swans in recent years.
Tarissa also has over 20 years experience teaching and working with school age children. Tarissa is also a mom of 2 and has a daughter swimming on the team.
Coach Katie:
Katie swam as a dedicated swimmer with the Sunrise Swans for 12 years. After retiring as a swimmer with the Swans, she swam for an additional 2 years with Sac Synchro. She brings an abundance of knowledge and experience with her as a coach to the sport of Artistic Swim.
