The Sunrise Swans Synchronized Swimming team has been in the Citrus Heights area since 1968. Its purpose is to foster and build teamwork, self-esteem, friendships, and synchronized swimming skills in youths from the surrounding areas. Today, the Swans continue this proud tradition, as well as showcasing the talent and skills learned by each swimmer by presenting an annual Watershow as the highlight of our season
Our Team Parents play a key role in the success of the team by managing the business aspect of running a competitive, recreational sports team. It is without a doubt, that the team could not function without the support of the parents. As a competitive team, our swimmers practice incredibly hard, since the season is typically only 12 weeks long. The Sunrise Swans operates as an independent recreational team, however, and we are affiliated with the local Valley-Foothill Competitive Aquatics League (VFCAL), and hold practices at the Sunrise Parks and recreational facility at Antelope Community Pool
Our team swimmers are classified in two levels: Novice and Intermediate. All swimmers start at the Novice level (unless petitioned and approved by VFCAL) and qualify for Intermediate level based on their figures placement at the all-team championships meet in July, at the end of the VFCAL season.
Coach Jamie:
Jamie began synchronized swimming in 2005 with the Roseville Aquabunnies, then joined the Sunrise Swans in 2006, and has been with the Swans ever since. She swam for the team for 10 years and was a volunteer novice coach during the last 4 years of my synchro career. This 2024 season will be her 9th year as an official coach of the Sunrise Swans, and it has been such a pleasure working with such amazing and talented swimmers! Synchronized/ Artistic swimming is such a passion for Jamie and has been for so many years. This team is family, the pool deck is home, and only hopes that as being a coach she can help our swimmers build their skills, create lasting memories, and fall in love with the beautiful sport of Artistic swimming. Jamie will primarily work with Intermediate Swimmers and older Novice.
Coach Tarissa:
We are excited to welcome Tarissa back to the Sunrise Swans again this year. She was a Swan for 10 years in her youth. She junior coached and coached for 5 years, and swam with Sac Valley Masters Adult League for 1 year. Tarissa, recently coached in 2022 is excited to come back to the team as a coach this year and share her passion for the sport. She has over 20 years experience teaching and working with school age children. Tarissa is also a mom of 2 and has a daughter swimming on the team.
Coach Heather:
We are excited to extend Heather’s roles with the team by adding her to the coaching staff this year. This will be her 7th season with the team. Over the years, she has had a huge impact on our team as a parent, judge, board member, and team referee. Its seems only fitting that she gets to progress to a coach this 2024 season. She has a true love for this amazing sport and the team has become like a second family. Prior to coaching swimming, Heather has experience coaching in gymnastics with all ages of children. Being head judge and referee, she gained extensive knowledge in figures and many aspects of artistic swimming routines. Heather is a mom of 2, grandma to 1, and enjoys crafting.
